Strategy lab (paper money, US fast movers)

Five candidate rules scan 726 US healthcare, tech and comms small/mid caps that Trading 212 lists, once a day at the US close, each with a pretend £100 and 1.2% round-trip costs. Market regime: UP. Last run 2026-11-03 20:50.

Promotion gate: 30 paper days, 10 trades, profit factor ≥ 1.3, drawdown under 25%, and ahead of the ETF bot. A rule that passes goes live with the real £100 after a 48 hour notice, unless HOLD is on.

Backtest honesty: on 2022–2026 history these rules lost money after costs (see README). Paper trading is the real test. Fast movers are noisy: expect long losing runs even if a rule works.

How it works

Universe: 5 London-listed ETFs priced in pounds (VUSA S&P 500, VWRL World, EMIM Emerging, SGLN Gold, VHYL High Dividend). No stamp duty, no FX fee.
Sizes each buy at 34% of the account, up to 3 positions. Market orders only.
Backtest 2018–2026 (rule loosened 02/11/26): about 3% a year, worst drawdown 7.9%, 69% of trades won, roughly a trade a week. Expect a few pounds a year on £100, not income.
Safety: no buys once the account is 15% below its peak. WhatsApp message on every buy, sell and error.
Reasons glossary: sma5 = price bounced back above its 5-day average; rsi = RSI(2) rose above 65; high7 = price hit a 7-day high; time = held 10 days; stop = safety stop (3×ATR); entry = oversold dip in an uptrend.
